| Urogynecology is a subspecialty that came about because of the complex pelvic problems that tend to develop in some women after childbirth or other pelvic stresses. Urogynecologic problems can be quite complex and the symptoms that each individual experiences can vary.
Involuntary leakage of urine, pelvic pressure, vaginal bulge, and decreased sensation with intercourse are common signs of Urogynecologic disorders. Specific conditions include:
- Urinary incontinence: involuntary loss of urine
- Urinary frequency and urgency
- Pelvic prolapse: dropped uterus, bladder or vagina; also known as cystocele or rectocele
- Post hysterectomy vaginal prolapse
- Pelvic, vulvar, vaginal or bladder pain
- Fecal incontinence
